The Manteno football team was put in a tough situation on October 11th against the Peotone Blue Devils. With a 2-4 record, Manteno needed to win in order to have a chance at qualifying for playoffs. On top of that, the Blue Devils have been the Rumble on Route 50 champions for the past two years. After a grueling game and the strongest defense the Panthers have shown all year, they were able to defeat the Blue Devils 14-7. With this second wind, the victory will help set the tone for the rest of the season. The Panthers now hope to win out against Streator and Herscher in the upcoming weeks.

Under the tutelage of lineman coaches Joel Gesky and Samie Sabbah and defensive coordinator Steve St. Jean, the Panther defense was able to lock down most of the progress of Peotone’s ace in the hole, running back Sam Biedron. Caleb Borkenhagen led the game with two touchdowns and 178 passing yards. Luke Trepanier scored an 86 yard touchdown and led the Panthers with 133 receiving yards. They will now continue the regular season playing at Streator High school followed by the Herscher Tigers at home.
