Principal Schnitzler Graduation Address

Congratulation to the Class of 2019

Recently about thirty of you were watching the same fireworks at Disney that I was watching.  The inspiration for this show was built upon the following words which could not be more appropriate for a graduating class.

“Each of us has a dream, a heart’s desire, it calls to us and when we are brave enough to listen and bold enough to pursue, that dream will lead us on a journey to discover who we are meant to be all we have to do is look inside our hearts and unlock the magic within.”

Graduating class of 2019, you all have dreams; those dreams are what should guide you from this day forward.  Those dreams could be centered on becoming a union pipefitter, researching new drugs to treat a form of cancer, or possibly working for the Disney Corporation which inspires thousands of guests each night with this same message.  The heart and passion you have is what will make those dreams possible.

Recently, we had some Manteno graduates back to talk to the student body.  Sandy Leeson sat where you are today back in 2005.  Today, Miss Leeson is a successful physician’s assistant and a member of the Illinois National Guard; she went out and pursued her dreams.  She serves her country with pride and patriotism like several of you have chosen to do after high school.  She finished her presentation with a message that Mr. Giacchino shared with her back in 2005 and probably shared with you sometime along the way.  “If you do what you are passionate about and enjoy your job, you will never work a day in your life.”  Go out be passionate about what you do, and live those dreams.

The Manteno School District and your parents have prepared you well for your road ahead.  They have educated you in the classroom with academic, communication, and soft skills that will make you successful in the work place.  They have been there to support your dreams and unlock that potential, be it on the field or court, competing in the arena, or performing on stage.  Your class has taken our sports and extra-curricular activities to regional, sectional, and state competitions.  Supporting you along the way were coaches and sponsors helping you to understand how to become better at what you do.  Take time to say “thank you” to these mentors in your life – they have helped you shape who you are today and achieve your high school dreams.

As the fireworks came to an end that night, inspiring dream building, a Disney song started to play

“ and a voice keeps saying this is where I am meant to be, I’ll be there someday, I can go the distance,  I will find my way, if I can be strong, I know every mile will be worth my while.  When I go the distance, I’ll be right where I belong.”

Go the extra mile Class of 2019, and unlock the magic in your hearts; Dream big and we wish all of you success!
